Doula.... so what's that?
- A Doula is what any woman wants, or needs her to be; in essence her role is to support emotionally, physically and practically, helping parents on their journey from the beginning of pregnancy to the early days of parenthood.
What is Cheshire Doula Services?
-It is me: Lauren, a mother of 3 who has created CDS to give women the opportunity to have continuous support, emotionally and practically, which will enable women and their partners to take control of all aspects of their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey.
-The services I offer are designed on the premise that every woman has the right to feel safe, secure, confident and prepared. No one woman is the same, yet all women are powerful. My aim is to help you realise your power and strength, and to help you to have the experience you desire, whatever path YOU want your journey to take.
-A Doula offers continuous emotional and practical support for, not just the woman, but also for the boyfriend/husband/partner, which creates a team of support for the labouring mum. I will help create and protect your safe place, ensure you know your options, feel confident in your choices and just be there. I believe, whole heartly, that a Doula helps create a beautiful start, because the better prepared you are, the more support you have, the more confident you are in your ability to be the best mum you can be.
-Cheshire Doula Services offers birth preperation, birth support and postnatal care. A postnatal doula helps create time for mum and baby, so as your postnatal doula I can take care of older children, do the school run, tidy round, light cleaning, cook meals and listen!
Who hires a Doula?
-So the “myth” is that a doula is for hippies and homebirthers, for natural birthers and breast feeders. Well, this is not the case! A good doula is one who does not give advice or offer her opinion, does not say ‘no’ to pharmaceutical support and/or 'no' to bottle-feeding. A good doula will act as a source of information, will offer added comfort and support and promote personal choice. A doula is a practical and emotional presence, that ‘extra pair of hands’, so surely anyone can hire a doula? Yes, anyone who wants additional, continuous support, before, during and after labour. A doula is a small cost for a big reward.
